Jared Michaels ’22, from Fairfax, Virginia, is a political science and public policy double major. He is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science National Honor Society, and has received the Garthwait Leadership Center’s Leadership Certificate. Jared is also one of Gettysburg’s Bullets Marching Band Drum Majors for the fall 2021 season.
Jared has worked as a research assistant for the public policy department on multiple projects, including data collection and analysis on Pennsylvanian Destination Marketing Organizations, and as a chapter co-author on veterans treatment courts in a forthcoming publication on problem-solving courts.
During the spring 2021 semester, Jared studied counterterrorism and international affairs in Washington, D.C., through the Lutheran College Washington Semester program. He interned at the D.C. Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) on its Policy Team, participated in conversations about criminal justice reform, analyzed U.S. District Court memorandum opinions regarding felon-in-possession firearms cases, and assisted the CJCC’s juvenile justice team in releasing stakeholder meeting summaries. In the summer of 2021, Jared worked as a research intern for the Department of Homeland Security.
After graduation, Jared plans to attend graduate school before embarking on a career in public service.
