D-Day + 80 Symposium
On April 20, 2024, the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Society will host a one-day symposium to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy.
About the Eisenhower Institute
The Eisenhower Institute empowers young leaders to tackle society’s most challenging public policy issues in real-time. Our experts lead students into communities across the United States and abroad to explore the impact of public policy decisions, talk to people who are affected, create innovative solutions, and urge decision makers to take action. Gettysburg College students gain a wealth of practical knowledge through hands-on experiences in public policy within our high school programs, undergraduate programs, and graduate programs—at no additional cost.
Through public policy programs that develop teamwork and problem-solving skills and unique experiential learning opportunities, the Eisenhower Institute prepares students to become leaders of change in the world of tomorrow.
Why Public Policy?
Public policy affects everything we do: our work, health, safety—even the air we breathe. In a democratic society, citizens have the right to examine the laws, policies, practices, and decisions that affect them and to be involved in how policy is made. Through the Eisenhower Institute, you gain insight into how you can shape the world through public policy research. This is where our work at the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College begins.

Dual Offices
The Eisenhower Institute operates as a dual office—with one office in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and one office in Washington, D.C. Our Gettysburg office is located in the historic building where President Dwight D. and Mamie Eisenhower once lived amid the backdrop of World War I. By contrast, our Washington office is located only a block away from the White House and less than 3 miles from Capitol Hill, giving students access to a world of networking and internship opportunities in the District and beyond.

Graduate Programs
The Eisenhower Institute offers applicants who are at the advanced stage of their doctoral candidacies funding from the Eisenhower/Roberts Fellowship to pursue postgraduate study. Funding will be awarded to applicants who are researching topics that address how government functions in a free society, public service, public policy, and world affairs.
High School Programs
Pitch an innovative new idea at Civic Engagement Summer Camp. Join a team to debate current events in our high school invitational. Apply for the Eisenhower Scholarship, Gettysburg College’s largest scholarship. Through the Eisenhower Institute’s high school programs, you can explore your passion for civic engagement through public policy research, fellowships, and engaging experiential learning opportunities.
