Susan Eisenhower Appointed to the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board Nuclear Energy Task Force

Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham recently appointed Susan Eisenhower to the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board Nuclear Energy Task Force. The group is charged with identifying and analyzing issues pertaining to the expansion of nuclear power in the United States. The task force analysis will include an examination of the financial risks associated with nuclear power plant construction, operation and maintenance. It will also detail an assessment of the uncertainties pertaining to government regulations, waste disposal, fuel costs, public acceptance and liability. Following a 6 month review, the task force will produce a detailed report, which outlines the critical factors that must be addressed if the United States is to invest in significant expansion of nuclear power. The report will also include a plan of action for addressing these key issues and facilitating a new generation of nuclear energy capabilities and will be submitted to the Secretary of Energy.


The composition of the task force is diverse, including leaders in public service, higher education, financial investment and policy think tanks; experts in energy policy analysis, scientific research and environmental issues; and representatives of the energy industry.
