Ridge served as Governor of Pennsylvania from 1995-2001, Director of the Office of Homeland Security from 2001-2003, and Secretary of Homeland Security in the Cabinet of President George W. Bush from 2003-2005. His most recent book is The Test of Our Times: America Under Siege...And How We Can Be Safe Again.
The Henry M. Scharf Memorial Lecture on Current Affairs is an annual lecture established by Dr. F. William Sunderman in 1977 to honor his long-time friend Henry Scharf, a member of Gettysburg College's class of 1925 and the builder of the Majestic Theater.

Fineman is Newsweek's senior Washington correspondent and columnist. An award-winning writer, Fineman is also an NBC news analyst and his work has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the New Republic. Fineman's most recent book is entitled The Thirteen American Arguments: Enduring Debates that Inspire and Define Our Country. In this book, he shows that every debate from our nation's founding to the Age of Obama, is rooted in one of the thirteen arguments that, thankfully, defy solution.

Eisenhower-Khrushchev Symposium

The Eisenhower Institute will mark this anniversary on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, 2009 with a series of programs to commemorate the visit and examine the future of US-Russia relations.
At 8:00 PM on Friday evening, William Taubman, Professor of Political Science at Amherst College and author of the Pulitzer Prize winning biography Khrushchev: The Man and His Era will give a lecture titled "Eisenhower and Khrushchev" in College Union Building room 260. Taubman will sign copies of his book following the lecture. Full schedule.

Bob Herbert is an American print and broadcast journalist. He joined the New York Times as an Op-Ed columnist in 1993. Prior to joining the Times, Herbert was a national correspondent for NBC from 1991 to 1993, reporting regularly on The Today Show and NBC Nightly News.
