


Applicants should be at an advanced stage of their doctoral candidacies, preferably at the point of preparing their dissertations. Each recipient is awarded $10,000. Recipients and dissertation topics:

Spingarn Senior High School
Alyssa Howard is a senior at Spingarn High School. She plans on working towards a degree in engineering.
Two awardees each year - $4,000 for each four years.
Lauren Byrnes plans to study biology in college and hopes to continue on to graduate school where she will pursue a career in medical research.
Corrylee R. Drozda plans to study international affairs at a four-year liberal arts school in preparation for a career in international law.
Candidates for this scholarship are undergraduate students attending Gettysburg College who plan to study abroad for a semester. One student is selected yearly for a $10,000 scholarship.
The 2008-2009 recipient is Calynn Dowler, a sophomore who is majoring in German and political science. Calynn will spend a semester at Heidelberg University in Heidelberg Germany where she will immerse herself in the German culture, study the rich political history of the region, and further her studies in both majors.
Awards are for professional international study to assist in travel and per diem costs.

Trish Aragon will travel to New Zealand to research how cities balance their community needs with construction activities of private development. Several cities in New Zealand, which are noted for their natural beauty, face issues regarding the balance of infrastructural needs with the heavy demands of tourism. Ms. Argon is a city engineer from Aspen, Colorado, a city that faces similar challenges.
