Fellowships & Residencies

The Institute appoints senior fellows who conduct research on public policy, leadership, or the history of the Eisenhower era, and who help shape programming. Normally, one senior fellow is related to each program theme. In addition, non-resident fellows may be appointed, whose scholarly projects are conducted in affiliation with the EI.

Harold G. Evans Professorship of Eisenhower Leadership Studies

Distinguished visiting faculty may be appointed for one- to three-year terms as the Harold G. Evans Professor of Eisenhower Leadership Studies. A bequest from the estate of Harold G. Evans, class of 1928, and intended to honor the leadership of Dwight D. Eisenhower in military, governmental, educational, and other public service contexts, this Professorship was originally based in the department of management. Its first occupant was Professor William Rosenbach, who wrote and edited several works on leadership and "followership." Today, the Evans Professor serves also as a senior fellow of the Eisenhower Institute - teaching, researching, and offering programs on one of the programmatic themes of the Institute. The current Harold G. Evans Professor is Eileen Stillwaggon.

Hauser Leaders-in-Residence

Gettysburg College campus residencies are supported through the Hauser Leaders-in-Residence program.  Funded by an endowment named for John A. Hauser, a trustee and friend of Gettysburg College and the second president of the Musselman Company, this program sponsors extended campus visits by leaders in government and public policy. These residencies typically involve public lectures, classroom presentations, meetings with individual students, student organizations, and faculty, workshops, receptions, and other activities. Each Hauser leader-in-residence must address, in part, the ethical implications of their topic(s) or professional role. Recently, Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows have been sponsored through this program. This program parallels the Hauser executive-in-residence program based in the Department of Management.

Dwight D. Eisenhower/Clifford Roberts Graduate Fellowship

The EI offers support for relevant doctoral dissertation work through the Dwight D. Eisenhower/Clifford Roberts Graduate Fellowships.  Roberts Fellows are usually invited to present a Roundtable on their topic at the EI.  Interested candidates for fellowships or residencies should contact the EI at (202) 628-4444.
