Decision 2018: The Midterm Elections

InsidePoliticsforweb

New for the 2018-2019 academic year!

Decision 2018 is a special one-time program for the Fall 2018 semester. Participants will work with practitioners and scholars to develop an understanding of the political issues and operational challenges of the 2018 midterm elections as well as their outcomes and consequences.

Each participant will select a competitive House race, learn as much as possible about the district and its issues, and follow the race through Election Day. During weekly sessions, participants will brief each other on the status of their congressional race and discuss developments in the national political scene. At the end of the program, an election post-mortem will explore what happened and what it means for Congress and the people of the United States.

One highlight of the program will be a three-day trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with Washington insiders working on Capitol Hill and on campaigns. Likely guest speakers will include a bipartisan array of practitioners including campaign staff, policy staff, fundraisers, pollsters, and other campaign stakeholders.

Decision 2018 will be facilitated by Bruce Larson, Professor of Political Science at Gettysburg College; Jamie Fleet ‘02, Democratic Staff Director for the Committee on House Administration; and Ryan Woodward ’12, Senior Legislative Assistant for U.S. Representative Peter King. The program will bring to bear multiple perspectives on the 2018 Midterm Election and help students bridge their classroom learning with the experience of electoral politics.
