William Coleman: The Henry M. Scharf Lecture

William Coleman served as Secretary of Transportation under President Ford, co-wrote the legal briefs for Brown vs. the Board of Education, and has served in advisory positions for seven US presidents. His career has been marked with groundbreaking achievements in the legal, corporate, and government sectors and Coleman received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1995. Day of Dialogue featuring Tanya Melich

The Day of Dialogue was sponsored by the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation, The Eisenhower Institute, and the Gettysburg College Political Science Department. The day began with a panel entitled "Campaign 2008: Candidates, Parties, and Voters." Woodrow Wilson visiting fellow Tanya Melich, a nationally recognized political analyst, writer, and authority on women in politics, gave a talk entitled "Getting Past the Noise: Understanding the Campaign of '08." The day concluded with a political themed game show, organized by Evans Chair of Eisenhower Leadership Studies and Professor of Political Science Ken Mott.

Christine Todd Whitman: "Women, Power & Politics: The View From Just Under the Glass Ceiling"

Former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman became the first woman governor of New Jersey, serving from 1994 to 2001. In 2001, Whitman was appointed Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by President George W. Bush.
