Michael J. Birkner, Senior Fellow

Michael J. Birkner is Professor of History at Gettysburg College and Benjamin Franklin Professor of Liberal Arts. He has taught at Gettysburg since 1989, chairing the department from 1993-2003, and serving for the past decade on the Eisenhower Institute Advisory Board. Birkner is the author or editor of twelve books, including two books on the presidency of James Buchanan, a companion workbook to a documentary series on Dwight Eisenhower’s military and political career, and a young adult biography of Eisenhower. He is currently completing a book titled Electing Ike: Sherman Adams and the Making of the President, 1952.
