James White

James "Jay" C. White II is the College's Acting Provost and an Associate Professor of Physics. A Fellow of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and Great Britain's Royal Astronomical Society, White is the former editor of Mercury and a former Executive Director of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. His astronomical research deals primarily with eruptive binary stars, but also of interest to him is the practice of science in developing countries, and the intersection of science, popular culture, and education.

White received his Ph.D. degree in astronomy from Indiana University and his Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Birmingham-Southern College. He is a frequent leader of astronomy and science-related trips around the globe and is the author of numerous professional publications and popular articles. He is the creator and author of the regular feature "Country Skies" in Country magazine and the former writer of a weekly column, "Science Matters," for the New York Times television syndicate.

White is married to Lisa M. White, a corporate tax CPA and tax manager with McKonly & Asbury LLP in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He and she are avid travelers, voracious readers, music mavens, and the parents of young Sebastian Artemis.
